Regé-Jean Page Happy 'Bridgerton' Character To Be Recast - Deadline

In sad news for Bridgerton To fans and especially to supporters of Regé-Jean Page and his smooth scene-stealing performance in the first season, the British actor has made it emphatic that he will not be returning. He says he has moved on and invites Netflix to do the same.

And the actor has confided that he hasn't even seen the second season of Shonda Rhimes' period drama that made him an international star and quickly made him the latest topic of the "James Bond conversation."

Page was asked by Variety about the possibility of being Bridgerton character, the Duke of Hastings, at the premiere of his latest movie the gray man, when he replied: “They are free to do as they please. Shonda and I had a great conversation at the end of Season 1. We were pretty happy with how we taped the landing on that. I'm still proud of how we glued the landing on that."

The plan for Bridgerton, which broke Netflix records when it debuted on Christmas Day in 2020, has always been about building each season around a different pivotal romance, and in April 2021 Page confirmed he would be out of the picture. His character's wife Daphne, played by British actress Phoebe Dynevor, had a small part in the second season, but sure enough, there was no sign of the Duke. Page said in his statement last year:

“It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to be your duke.

"Joining this family - not just on screen, but off screen as well. Our incredibly creative and generous cast, crew, outstanding fans - it's all more than I could have imagined. The love is real and will only to grow."

Page appears in action thriller the gray manwhich hits Netflix on July 22, alongside Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Ana de Armas.

Page described his character in the film as "super bad," but he could have said the same about his time on Bridgerton too, and it only seemed to add to the fans' enjoyment. The duke's polished boots will be hard to fill for any actor who dares to try.
